Fable Low Power Mode: Conserve AI Tokens Efficiently
Fable Low Power Mode is a specialized token-saving profile designed for scenarios when Anthropic usage limits approach their thresholds. This skill operates within the framework of existing AI models, ensuring efficient token conservation by routing execution tasks to more cost-effective models, while higher-tier models remain responsible for key decision-making and orchestration tasks. It is automatically activated when specific usage thresholds are met or can be switched on manually as required.
What this skill does
Monitors the token usage across five-hour and seven-day periods using the `rate_limits.five_hour/.seven_day.used_percentage` signals.
Activates the low power mode automatically once predefined thresholds (60% for five-hour, 75% for seven-day) are exceeded.
Maintains an active state until usage declines below threshold with a minimum 30-minute duration to stabilize usage patterns.
Allows for manual toggling of low power mode regardless of the automatic thresholds.
Announces mode activation at session start and enables dynamic mid-session switching.
Who it is for
Fable Low Power Mode is intended for developers and teams using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. Specifically, it benefits those who need to manage their token usage effectively when approaching their allocation limits.
Use cases
Development teams looking to optimize token consumption during peak usage periods.
Organizations seeking to manage usage seamlessly without compromising on essential decision-making functionalities of AI models.
Users requiring a fallback mechanism when running applications with fluctuating or unpredictable API call volumes.
Technical details
The token consumption is tracked using a state file located at `~/.claude/fable-low-power.json`.
A sensor script `~/.claude/skills/fable-low-power/limit-sense.sh` tracks usage statistics.
The system reads usage percentage from a cache file `~/.claude/cache/statusline-payload.json`, updated by the `statusline-tee.sh` script.
Triggered by `low-power-mode.sh`, which integrates into session management processes to toggle the power profile as required.
