AI-Powered BibTeX Generator for Academic References
The AI-Powered BibTeX Generator is an advanced tool designed to facilitate the creation of BibTeX entries for academic references. By processing inputs such as arXiv IDs, DOIs, titles, URLs, batch lists, or reference-search JSON, the tool systematically routes source requests to generate accurate BibTeX entries tailored to specific academic needs.
What this skill does
Takes input from arXiv IDs, DOIs, titles, URLs, batch lists, or reference-search JSON.
Classifies each query as High-Energy Physics (HEP) or non-HEP.
Routes HEP queries to InspireHEP, using Google Scholar or CrossRef if no results are found. Non-HEP queries are directed to Google Scholar, with CrossRef as a fallback.
Preserves source-native keys and creates BibTeX entries, which can be printed or appended to an existing .bib file.
Provides read-only access to existing `.bib` files unless `--output` is invoked, allowing for appending of new entries.
Who it is for
This skill is ideally suited for developers and research teams employing AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex, aiming to streamline the citation and bibliography generation process within academic and scientific environments.
Use cases
Academics and researchers managing a large volume of references and requiring expedited BibTeX entry generation.
Developers integrating citation management into AI-driven workflow solutions, enhancing consistency and efficiency.
Teams conducting literature reviews who need to convert lists of references from arXiv or publishers into a cohesive BibTeX format.
Technical details
Utilizes InspireHEP for HEP queries and Google Scholar via the `scholarly` library for non-HEP queries.
Employs CrossRef’s DOI transformation capabilities as a fallback for non-HEP citations.
Incorporates AI tools such as academic-workflow, aiapplication, and bibtex-gen to process inputs and manage outputs efficiently.
This tool works with publicly available information and respects the terms of service of source providers. Users must ensure proper compliance with these terms during usage.
